MY ENGLISH ALPHABET
Vanessa Koukou
Let’s be clear from the start: learning the alphabet isn't the goal. The goal is to build learners who know how to think, choose, lead, and adapt and it all starts here, with a mischievous cat, four simple words, and one letter.
Watch What Happens in This Lesson:
In today’s lesson — Letter A, the first in the My English Alphabet series — you’ll follow the Wingnovators, a curious cast of characters who are more than cartoon figures. They’re explorers, decision-makers, and disruptors. Just like the kids watching them.
As they navigate a light but surprising encounter with a clever black cat, young learners will connect each word —ant, apple, arm, arrow— with a bigger idea: how small choices lead to big results.
What's Being Taught (That You Might Not Notice)
Sure, there’s vocabulary and phonics. But that’s surface-level. Beneath that, this lesson is doing something deeper.
🌿Encouraging learners to predict outcomes
🌿Showing how language connects to real action
🌿Framing the alphabet not as letters, but as a system of tools to think with
The visuals, repetition, and story structure aren’t just cute, they’re engineered for cognitive impact. This isn’t just how kids learn English.
It’s how they learn not to fail.
Why Birdhouse English exists:
Birdhouse English wasn’t created to churn out grammar drills or chase trends. It was built to answer one question:
What if language learning could prepare kids for real life, not just exams?
From that question came a system that integrates entrepreneurial thinking, literacy, and emotional intelligence into early English education — while staying fun, accessible, and story-driven.
Every resource here is made to:
🕯️Respect learners' intelligence
🕯️Inspire independent thought
🕯️Keep kids engaged without gimmicks
Vanessa Koukou, Educator and Advocate for Meaningful Learning:
Here’s the truth: curriculum doesn’t teach. People do.
I’m Vanessa Koukou, the person behind Birdhouse English. My background as a multilingual educator helps shape every lesson, but what truly matters to me is creating material that makes a real difference for learners.
I design material with two priorities:
⭐Real cognitive development
⭐️Emotional resonance
I do not teach what’s easy to teach — I choose to teach what matters.
The free unit you’re downloading wasn’t written to tick boxes. It was written to give kids the mental habits they’ll rely on for life.

Your Mission with the Letter A: The Secret Code Challenge
The Wingnovators need your help! There’s a secret message hidden in the Letter A words but only sharp thinkers can crack the code.
Here’s the secret:
Each word starts with the letter A, but they also show something important about how we think and act:
🐜Ant = Teamwork and hard work
🍎Apple = Healthy choices and curiosity
💪Arm = Strength and reaching out
➡︎ Arrow = Focus and direction
Your challenge:
Look around your home or classroom and find ONE thing that reminds you of each secret meaning. It can be anything! For example:
✅Something that shows teamwork
✅Something that makes you curious
✅Something that helps you reach or carry
✅Something that points or shows direction
When you find each object, say the word and explain why you chose it.
Why this matters: you’re not just learning words — you’re learning how to see the world like a Wingnovator, connecting language to life skills and smart choices.
